PR-1782 Universal Aircraft Sealant Meets Airbus’ Requirements
Like most aircraft manufacturers, Airbus, over time, developed a wide range of sealant specifi cations with different products and regional variations approved to each. To simplify the situation, Airbus asked suppliers to develop a “Universal Sealant” for all general purpose areas and inside the fuel tank that could be used for their programs in all global regions. In addition, Airbus requested that the sealant be 20% lighter in weight than existing products. PPG Aerospace developed PR-1782 Universal Aircraft Sealant to meet these new requirements.
PR-1782 is our next generation ultra-light weight aircraft sealant. It is 20% lower in weight and cures two-thirds faster than earlier generation sealants.
This product, available in grades A, B and C, is approved for all Airbus programs to both general purpose AIMS 04- 05-001 and high performance fuel tank 04-05-012 specifi cations. The approvals cover work lives from B1/2 through C70 and various packaging options, including pre-mixed and frozen cartridges.Airbus began to transition their facilities to PR-1782 in 2009. They also advised all theirier 1 subcontractors to change from existing materials (PR-1770C, PR-1776, P/S 892 and PR-1771) to PR-1782.
PR-1782 is available through PPG Aerospace’s global Application Support Center (ASC) network. It is manufactured at two PPG Aerospace locations in Mojave, California and Shildon, UK.
